About us

Fishing in South Limburg at the Drielandenpunt

A warm welcome to the internet site of angling club Vaals ’68. Our ponds are situated in Vaals at the base of the Vaalserberg and are the highest fishing ponds in the Netherlands.
The fishing pond is located at Randweg 21.

These fish ponds and the land around them belong to the Camillian fathers who lived for a long time in the monastery on the Eschberg in Vaals. Now and then, the members of the club maintain the fishing ponds and the land surrounding them. In the three ponds you can catch pike, bass, roach, carp and tench, just to mention a few. Due to maintenance work two of the three ponds are not accessible, but the biggest pond is open to the public. Please have a look at our club rules before you start.

You can find us right next to the holiday park Landal “Hoog Vaals” where you can also use the public car park. The entrance to the fishing ponds is located at the back of the main building and signs will show you the direction. You need a permit to fish in our ponds.

Day and week permits can be bought at the reception of the park and it is always possible to become a member of the club.

On most Tuesday evenings and weekends you can find some members of the club on the premises or you can always contact us by phone or email here.

“The rules”

Club rules

When fishing, every angler is required to carry a valid license (year, week, day). This permit is of course strictly personal. Upon request, the permit must be presented to authorized persons for inspection. Authorized persons are police, members, board members and inspectors. Inspectors are in possession of a valid ID, signed by the chairman and secretary. In the event of a violation, they have the right to withdraw the permit, after which the board, i.o.a. the controller, measures can be taken against the data subject.

It is strictly prohibited to perform actions that cause damage to vegetation, the fishing grounds, buildings and other property of the association. Under no circumstances may waste, food scraps, excess fish food, etc. be deposited in the water; waste bins are provided for this purpose. Waste in any form may not be left on your fishing spot.

Fishing is allowed from 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset. Night fishing is not permitted unless the board has granted members an exemption in advance on announced nights.

Seniors may fish with 2 rods, juniors (up to 15 years) with 1 rod. Floating fishing is not permitted. You are required to stay with the fishing rod(s). When leaving the fishing spot, you must take the fishing rod(s) out of the water and remove the bait from the hook. The use of a keepnet is only permitted during competitions.

Caught fish should always be handled with care and released (Catch & Release).

When fishing, a landing net, proper unhooking equipment and unhooking mat are mandatory.
Fishing is done with barbless hooks.

Scooping uncaught fish is prohibited. Fishing with more than 1 leader is prohibited. Fishing with more than one hook is prohibited (with the exception of artificial bait). When carp fishing, the use of braided line is prohibited (with the exception of the leader).

Fishing with “live bait” (including live fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds or mammals) is not allowed. Fishing with maggots, worms, mosquito larvae, etc. is permitted (with the exception of colored maggots). Digging for worms on the property is not permitted.

Feeding while fishing or creating feeding areas is expressly prohibited.

Open fire and/or barbecue are prohibited. It is also prohibited to place tents, bivvies or wind screens, etc. on the pond. Only an umbrella or an umbrella with an overwrap is allowed. Causing nuisance (music, running, shouting, etc.) is prohibited. Bicycles and mopeds may not be placed on or parked on the fishing path. Dogs must be on a leash.

The association cannot be held liable in the event of loss or damage to goods belonging to anglers or visitors, as well as in the event of accidents or injury. In the event of damage to property surrounding the fishing area, strict measures will be taken against the person involved.

In the event of disagreement, the inspectors are unconditionally vindicated by the board. In cases not provided for in these regulations, the board will decide.
